Ms. Kerryann M. Cook is a Senior Partner at McGivney, Kluger & Cook, P.C., and also serves as the Director of the firm’s large New York City mass tort and class action litigation, involving asbestos. Kerryann is known as an extremely effective negotiator and orator, who brings sharp logic and skillful negotiation to complex cases whether it be at trial or settlements. Kerryann is always fully equipped to do battle for her clients, when she is engaged in a case her clients reap the benefits of her considerable knowledge, experience and intense person investment.
The scope of Kerryann’s practice includes the defense of Asbestos/Bodily Injury cases, Mass Torts, Toxic Torts, Product Liability, and General Casualty defense. Kerryann has tried cases to verdict, and her numerous litigation-related successes include prevailing on dozens of summary judgment, forum, and successor liability motions, and obtaining a single, voluntary dismissal of over 16,000 claims for a pump company. In addition to defending claims in New York and New Jersey, Kerryann’s practice includes developing and implementing defense strategies for a wide-variety of entities in multi-state litigation as national coordinating and trial counsel. Kerryann is also counsel to non-profit organizations, including a New York City based entity dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling.
Kerryann was elected by her peers to serve as one of four defense liaison counsel to the New York City Asbestos Litigation. She also served as a member of the New York City Asbestos Litigation Case Management Committee, is liaison counsel for active docket cases, and is a member of the defense medical liaison group. She successfully briefed and argued Robert F. Perdicaro v. A.O. Smith Water Products, et al., 52 A.D.3d 300 (1st Dep’t 2008), and co-authored an article published in the International Journal of Sport Management entitled “Unpaid Interns in Sport: Are They Legal?” Kerryann has been recognized as one of the “Top Young Attorneys in New York” and as a “Rising Star” in the New York Metro Area for each of the last eight years. She has lectured frequently and has been on the faculty at conferences presented by the American Conference Institute (ACI), Defense Resource Institute (DRI), Harris Martin, Perrin Conferences, as well as for numerous insurance companies as a part of their in-house training programs.
Also noteworthy are Kerryann’s achievements and involvement with numerous equity-focused, non-profit and leadership development organizations. Kerryann is currently the co-chair of the Women’s Leadership series for Perrin Conferences, and is honored to serve as co-chair of the annual Women’s Event that benefits The LBGT Center of New York City. She also serves on the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York’s (LeGAL) Leadership Council. Most recently, Kerryann joined the Board of The TEAM, a Brooklyn-based theatre ensemble dedicated to creating new work about the experience of living in America today.
Kerryann received her undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University, and her Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she worked for the Lady Volunteers athletic programs. She remains a dedicated Lady Vol for Life! She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis School of Law, where she was the Chief Justice of the Moot Court Board and a member of the school’s National Moot Court team. Kerryann is admitted to the bars of New York and Pennsylvania, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Additionally, Kerryann is a registered sports agent and has spent countless years working in and around collegiate and professional sports programs. She is a proud parent to her young son.
