Ms. Bakhbava is an associate in McGivney, Kluger & Cook’s Hartford office and is primarily involved in the areas of products liability, toxic torts and general liability defense litigation, including defending claims against manufacturers of commercial and residential machinery and equipment as well as consumer products. She is experienced in complex personal injury matters, including wrongful death, dram shop, gas explosion loss and property damage claims, as well as premises liability and automobile accidents. Ms. Bakhbava is well versed in handling cases from their initial inception to their successful completion, whether involving individuals or legal entities, and she has represented clients in state and federal courts.
Ms. Bakhbava obtained her first law degree from Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. She then received her J.D. and LL.M. degrees from the University of Virginia School of Law. Ms. Bakhbava spent a summer working at DLA Piper’s Tbilisi office, where she was involved in representing international and domestic corporate entities and financial institutions, dealing with complex issues of cross-border transactional work. She also completed the National Trial Advocacy College while a student at the University of Virginia School of Law.
Ms. Bakhbava believes in giving back to the legal community. She was elected to serve on the Connecticut Bar Association’s (CBA) House of Delegates (representing District 12); she is on the executive committee of the Insurance Law Section and also serves as the section’s diversity liaison; and she is a member of the Litigation Section. Ms. Bakhbava is on the Board of Directors of the Hartford County Bar Association, where she co-chairs the Insurance Law Committee. She is on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association (CDLA), where she co-chairs the Young Lawyers Committee. Previously, for a number of years she served on the Board of Directors of the Foundation of New Haven County Bar, was a CBA Presidential Fellow, served on the executive committee of the Women in the Law Section, was a Barrister in the Oliver Ellsworth Inn of Court, and was an associate fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA).
Ms. Bakhbava is admitted to the Connecticut and New York state bars, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. She speaks the Georgian and Russian languages.
