Michael Gilberti is an experienced civil and criminal trial and appellate lawyer with extensive experience in the asbestos litigation and a wide variety of cases. During his 40-year career, he has tried general and complex cases and argued appeals in product liability, white-collar and general criminal defense, commercial, construction and civil RICO matters in the state and federal courts in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland. He has been a Certified Trial Attorney since 2001, and has been named a New Jersey Super Lawyer since 2011. He maintains an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
From 1980 to 1990, Mr. Gilberti was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of New Jersey and served as Chief of Narcotics, Senior Litigation Counsel and Senior Trial Counsel. During his tenure, he taught trial tactics and grand jury practice to new prosecutors at the Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute of the U.S. Department of Justice. Since 1990, he has defended general criminal and complex white collar cases in federal, state and municipal courts. He has also prepared and argued numerous criminal appeals.
He earned his Juris Doctorate from The Dickinson School of Law in 1974 and a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University in 1971. He was a law clerk to The Honorable Joseph F. Weis, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
He is admitted to the state and federal bars of New Jersey and the bars of the District of Columbia, the United States Supreme Court and the United States Courts of Appeals for Second, Third and Fourth Circuits.
