McGivney, Kluger, Clark & Intoccia is pleased to congratulate MKCI Partner James A. Long on his admission to the California Bar. Jim is a partner in the firm’s Syracuse, New York office and actively represents clients out of the firm’s Los Angeles office as well.
Jim has extensive experience in defending general liability claims involving personal injury defense, professional liability, construction defects, maritime, employment law, toxic torts, environmental claims, and products liability (e.g., pharmaceuticals, medical devices, asbestos, etc.). He has successfully defended his clients at trial in both federal and state courts across the country, having most recently taken a verdict in the Northern District of New York in 2018. Jim serves as National Coordinating Counsel for a major American construction materials manufacturer, and represents multiple large companies within the automotive industry in asbestos litigation. He is known as a dedicated and capable adversary in the courtroom, as well as a tough negotiator on behalf of his clients.
Jim’s professional background in technology and software development has also prepared him as a skilled advisor and litigator in cybersecurity, data breach and emerging technologies matters. Prior to practicing law, Jim was programmer on one of the first online travel booking engines in 1999, designed early social media models focused on task management in 2000, and built a scalable online video-rental service in 2003. He is a knowledgeable and efficient data breach coach and has advised companies and individuals regarding cybersecurity issues since 2001, as both a system architect and later as an attorney.
Jim earned his Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law and received his bachelor’s degree from The City College of New York with honors. He has been listed as a Superlawyers® Rising Star, in multiple jurisdictions, every year since 2015. Jim is now admitted to the bars of California, New York and New Jersey.
