Mei-wa Cheng is Of Counsel in MKCI’s Hartford, CT office. Mei-wa brings over 20 years of significant and broad experience in civil trial and appellate litigation, arbitration, commercial transactions, business operations, professional liability, cyber liability, administrative, contract, real estate and construction law. She has worked as an appellate clerk for the Connecticut Supreme Court, an attorney in non-profit organizations, private law firms, and as in-house counsel in real estate development and management companies.
In addition to her legal work, Mei-wa’s diverse business experiences include managing a gut-rehabilitation of offices for a United States senator, managing a large equestrian and sporting events venue, and working as a licensed property and casualty insurance broker. She believes her unique background brings valuable insights to her practice focusing on general liability, construction liability and professional liability matters and appeals in the State and Federal courts.
Mei-wa has served on numerous community and charitable organizations including many years on the board of the Hartford Chamber of Commerce of the MetroHartford Alliance, the preeminent regional business association. She is a past recipient of the “40 Under 40” regional leadership recognition by the Hartford Business Journal.
On a personal level, Mei-wa cherishes spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys reading, traveling, rowing, fencing, music, arts, theater and “lives to eat.”
Mei-wa obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Law during which time she was a member of the International Law Review and was as an intern/clerk in the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Connecticut. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in English and Intercultural Studies from Trinity College in Hartford, CT with 30 percent of credits from Dartmouth College and Yale University.
