Janell Cruz is an Associate Attorney in MKCI’s Florida office. Her practice focuses on commercial and construction litigation, including construction defect and construction property damage disputes, premises liability matters, negligent security actions, negligence claims, toxic tort and asbestos litigation, and negligent hiring and retention issues.
Janell is involved in all stages of litigation, including claim investigation, written discovery, depositions, mediation, negotiation, motion practice, and preparing cases for trial. Her experience includes legal research and drafting, case evaluation and strategy, and coordinating factual development in multi-party disputes. She supports the defense of contractual, regulatory, and commercial matters and assists in all phases of case development throughout complex civil litigation. Janell is committed to delivering precise, well-reasoned work and approaches each case with disciplined analysis, meticulous attention, and a focus on building clear, well-supported legal strategies.
Prior to joining MKCI in 2025, Janell aided in litigation matters involving personal injury matters, elder abuse, and regulatory issues, and completed a judicial internship with the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
In addition to her work with MKCI, Janell enjoys writing, staying current on political and legal news, and spending time with her family. She is also a cat parent and an avid film aficionado. Janell is bilingual in English and Spanish.
Janell earned her Juris Doctor degree from St. Thomas University College of Law, where she completed the Business Law Certificate and served as Executive Editor of the Intercultural Human Rights Law Review. During law school, Janell worked as a Research Assistant focusing on blockchain, cryptocurrency, and federal tax enforcement, and participated in the VITA Tax Program preparing IRS-compliant documentation. Janell earned a Bachelor of Science degree prior to law school with a focus on psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice.
