Marissa Silva Monteiro
ASSOCIATE
Marissa is an Associate in MKCI’s New York City and Livingston, NJ offices. Her practice focus includes Asbestos Litigation, representing clients in toxic tort claims, and also includes general liability defense. Marissa is involved in all stages of litigation, including investigation of claims, developing litigation strategy, conducting depositions, managing client discovery, motion practice and preparing cases for trial.
Prior to joining MKCI, Marissa was primarily responsible for criminal defense matters, handling Municipal Court traffic and criminal matters and Superior Court matters throughout New Jersey. She also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Nancy Sivilli (retired) and a Deputy Public Defender for the Alternative Commitment Unit of the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender in Essex County. She continues to do Pro Bono work for residents of Avenel who are indefinitely committed to the facility.
Marissa is an alum and former Regional Moot Court Director of the Northeast Black Law Students Association and has served as an advisory board member for the National Black Law Students Association.
Outside of MKCI, Marissa enjoys spending time and going on walks with her Malinois named Girlie and finding new places to have delicious meals in New York and New Jersey.
Marissa earned her Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School and was honored as an executive board member of the Moot Court Association and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Association. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies from Central Penn College in Harrisburg, PA. While in college, Marissa was a starter for the Central Penn Knights Women’s Basketball team and Women’s Volleyball team, part of the USCAA.
